Common Name: Variegated Butterfly Agave, Century Plant
More vivid variegation makes this new selection distinct from its parent, 'Kissho Kan'. Green leaves with bright cream, prominent margins form a remarkably symmetrical, small, round rosette. The tiny cinnamon brown marginal and terminal spines emerge yellow, transition to light brown, and then finally age to cinnamon brown. They contrast perfectly with the light edge. The thick and rigid leaves are tough as nails, almost plastic-like to the touch, so you can be sure that deer and other pests won’t touch this plant.
The common name "Century Plant" is alluding to the belief that it takes 100 years to bloom. In reality, Agaves bloom after 15-20 years, and the main crown dies after blooming.
