Northern Sea Oats is a clumping grass that is treasured for its showy, drooping flowers and unique bamboo-like foliage. Its tendency to reseed makes it an ideal choice for mass plantings. The seed heads, which turn from green to copper in fall, make interesting cut flowers in both fresh and dried arrangements.
This is one of few taller ornamental grasses that is shade tolerant. It is native to the wooded slopes and damp forests of southeastern North America, from Texas north to Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
