Delphinium 'Moonlight Blues'

New Zealand Delphiniums

Common Name: Hybrid Bee Delphinium

One of the shortest Delphiniums yet to come from Dowdeswell’s Delphiniums in New Zealand.  This petite new seed strain measures in at just 2½-3’ tall in full bloom.

Even more impressive is that half of this height is comprised of stout flower spikes!  Stunning sky blue flowers with the slightest hint of pink have perfectly contrasting dark bees.  The color of the bee ranges from black to brown to blue striped and it really adds some pop to these cool blue blossoms.

After the main spike is finished blooming, trim it off and watch many side shoots develop and bloom just as beautifully as the first.  The extra flower stems help to prolong the bloom time and to give the plant its bushy appearance.

The foliage of this variety tends to be a bit lighter green than others in the series, but is just as robust and healthy.  Delphiniums perform best when fed heavily and regularly.

The English hybrid type of delphiniums are bred by New Zealand Delphiniums and are hand crossed to produce the highest quality seed. These F1 hybrids have excellent form, strong stems, and a vigorous growth habit. They were selected for their improved tolerance of heat and humidity, while retaining their cold hardiness.
