Like the first Heucherella villosa hybrid called ‘Alabama Sunrise’, this new Heucherella shares the same villosa bloodlines. This is so important, especially for those in climates with hot, humid summers, because the plants hold up tremendously under such weather.
‘Sweet Tea’ forms a clump of large, dissected foliage in a very unique shade of orange. The spring foliage is a delicious shade of apricot orange with a burgundy center blotch, and as the weather warms up the foliage darkens in color. Coppery orange, russet, and cinnamon tones dominate in summer.
Though small white flowers appear in late spring, this plant is really grown for its unique foliage color. The special orange coloration of ‘Sweet Tea’ makes it a wonderful plant to complement the entryway of brick houses or containers on brick patios.
Heucherella is a hybrid genus produced from a cross between Heuchera and Tiarella. The villosa species is more heat and drought tolerant, making this an ideal selection for regions with hot, steamy summers.
