Looking to add a bright spot of color to your landscape in spring? Look no further than Thermopsis 'Sophia'! This dwarf selection of a rare lupine relative that bears an abundance of large, sunny yellow spikes of pea-like flowers on leafy stems in late spring. They make quite a color impact in the garden, especially at that time of year when little else is blooming.
The plants form bushy clumps of compound foliage that looks great all season long. After the flowers fade, clusters of flat green seed pods develop in their place.
This plant can be used as a spring blooming specimen or can be massed for best color impact. Butterflies love to drink their sweet nectar. Thermopsis is suitable for perennial gardens, meadows, or cutting gardens. If using the flowers in fresh bouquets, cut them when 1/3 to 1/2 of the flowers on the spike are open.
Thermopsis 'Sophia' was introduced by North Creek Nurseries.
